They explain its possibilities and advantages, highlight the risks and also address some persistent myths associated with building with timber. The main aim is to promote greater use of timber in the construction industry and to demonstrate how the appropriate choice of building materials can help reduce the environmental impact of construction.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the publication emphasises that a high-quality timber building is not achieved solely through the correct choice of materials. Crucial factors include high-quality project preparation, a well-thought-out design and a comprehensive approach to construction, from the initial investment plan through to its implementation and subsequent operation. It is precisely this thorough preparation that is of fundamental importance for achieving the required quality, durability and functionality of the building.<\/p>\n<p>The methodology also devotes considerable attention to the renovation and adaptation of existing buildings. It is precisely in this area that the use of timber and other natural materials offers significant potential. New builds, in fact, account for only around one per cent of the total building stock each year. Nevertheless, its use in the Czech construction industry remains rather limited, and its wider adoption is often held back by a lack of experience and reliable information. The specialist platform \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/nebojteseborovice.cz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Don\u2019t Be Afraid of Pine<\/a>\u2019 aims to change this.<\/p>\n<p>The website was developed by a team from Herrmann &amp; Vogel in collaboration with the Timber Research and Development Institute. <strong>The Timber Research and Development Institute also acts as the project\u2019s expert guarantor.<\/strong> The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague is also involved in creating the content.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jitka-ber%C3%A1nkov%C3%A1-225217112\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Director Jitka Ber\u00e1nkov\u00e1<\/a> explains: \u201cClimate change will affect the species composition of forests, and we will have to learn to work more with other types of timber as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Our ancestors have always used local materials for building. This was also true of timber. In areas with pine forests, pine was commonly used as timber for construction. <strong>Given the properties of pine timber and its suitability for construction or interior use, it is in no way inferior to spruce.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anna Sou\u010dkov\u00e1, Head of the Analysis and Assessment Centre at the Timber Research Institute, adds: \u201cThe timing of pine harvesting, correct cutting, the method of drying and also grading for appropriate use are all important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vvud.cz\/trideni-dreva-pro-stavebni-ucely\/\">The grading of sawn timber is governed by standard requirements<\/a>, and staff must be properly trained. The competition showcases exceptional timber construction projects from across Europe and highlights their architectural quality, technical excellence, innovation and contribution to sustainable construction.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two countries are taking part in this year\u2019s edition, having nominated a total of 59 projects. <strong>The Czech Republic is represented<\/strong> by the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025, the Klobouck\u00e1 lesn\u00ed office building and the refurbishment of the \u010ceskobrodsk\u00e1 Secondary School in Prague.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the People\u2019s Choice Award, anyone can vote for one project across all competition categories. Voting is open until 30 September 2026, and only one vote per device is permitted.
