UKCA certification: for export to Great Britain and Northern Ireland<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Timber Institute has entered into a cooperation agreement with CATG, a British approved certification body for timber, timber structures, and wood-based materials. Manufacturers who wish to sell their products on the UK market with the UKCA mark can therefore contact the Timber Institute directly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

UKCA marking<\/strong>
In connection with the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU in 2020, new requirements have been established for the mandatory marking of construction products intended for sale in the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, with the UKCA mark.<\/p>\n

The UKCA marking confirms that the product complies with UK legislation. It is intended to completely replace the CE marking in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manufacturers are required to draw up a declaration of conformity and affix the UKCA marking to all their construction products that are covered by a “designated standard” or that comply with a “UK Technical Assessment” (UKTA) issued for them. Designated standards are published on the website of the British Standards Institution (BSI).<\/p>\n

Following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, the British government adopted measures to facilitate the supply of products from the EU to the British market and the temporary recognition of European certificates during the transition period.<\/p>\n

The measure allows manufacturers to use conformity assessment activities for CE marking (under Regulation (EU) 305\/2011, known as CPR) completed by December 31, 2022, as the basis for UKCA marking without having to repeat testing through a UK-approved body.<\/p>\n

If an EU manufacturer decides to mark its product for the UK market with both the UKCA mark and the CE mark, it will need valid declarations of performance that meet the requirements of both the UK and EU CPR regimes.<\/p>\n

Cooperation agreement between the Timber Institute for UKCA\/CE marking<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Timber Research Institute, which is a notified body for wood and wood-based materials, has decided to facilitate the path to UKCA for Czech manufacturers and has entered into a cooperation agreement with CATG, a British approved certification body for wood, wooden structures, and wood-based materials.<\/p>\n

Based on this mutual agreement, CATG will recognize the results of Timber Institute customer audits and tests and use documents issued by Timber Institute as a basis for CATG documents, on the basis of which the manufacturer will be able to affix the UKCA marking. This will prevent duplicate product assessments and unnecessary financial and time burdens for manufacturers.<\/p>\n
