Jitka Ber\u00e1nkov\u00e1, Ph.D., Director of the Timber Research Institute, explains how manufacturers are required to place construction products on the market under Czech and European legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Placing a construction product on the market does not begin with the test itself or with an application for a certificate. The first step is to precisely define the product, its intended use and the technical specifications against which its properties will be assessed. The manufacturer must determine whether the product falls within the harmonised European scope, whether a European Technical Assessment can be used for it, or whether it is covered by the Czech national conformity assessment system.<\/p>\n<p>This decision determines the next steps, the scope of testing, the documentation required and the involvement of an independent certification body, such as the Wood Research and Development Institute, Prague s.p.
